Documents you build with a generator reopen in that generator, and can schedule their own invoices

A saved SOW, service agreement, engagement letter, retainer or MSA opens back on the form you filled in, with Send and its history on the same page — and a fixed fee can now be set to invoice itself when the client signs, or split across an engagement’s milestones.

The document generators ask you a few questions and write the document. Until now that was a one-way trip: the moment you saved, your answers were gone, and reopening the document dropped you into a section-by-section text editor with no fee, no dates and no form. The fastest way to change a single number was to start over.

The document remembers how it was built

  • Open a saved document and you land back on the generator, every answer still filled in. Change the fee, the dates or the scope and the preview updates as it did the first time.
  • That page is now the document itself: its number, its status, the client it is for, the Send button, and the history of every view and signature underneath.
  • You can still edit the prose by hand — "Edit the text directly" opens the section editor. That is a one-way door, and deliberately so: once you have rewritten a clause yourself, a form can no longer describe what is on the page, so the document stays in the editor from then on. If you want the form back, "Regenerate from answers" rewrites the text and returns it.

Decide how the fee is invoiced while you are writing it

A fixed fee used to be a number in a sentence and nothing more — you signed the document, then went to Invoicing and tried to remember what it said. A Statement of Work or service agreement with a fixed fee now asks one more question.

  • Invoice it yourself, the way you always have. Nothing is scheduled.
  • One invoice when the client signs. Their signature creates the invoice for the full fee; it is a draft waiting for you unless you ask for it to be emailed automatically.
  • Split across milestones. Give each milestone of the linked engagement a percentage, and completing that milestone drafts its share as an invoice.

And Ivy can read the terms back

Ask "how is the Northwind retainer paid?" and the answer comes from what the document actually says and what is actually scheduled — the fee, how it is invoiced, the next invoice date once it is signed, and which milestone sends it.

An invoice created on signature appears the next morning, because the billing run is nightly. Documents you sent before this change are untouched and still open in the editor, and PDF and Word export are unchanged.
