Late fees apply themselves, and you can waive them in one click

Set a late-fee policy once and overdue invoices carry the fee automatically; the client sees the running balance in their portal, and forgiving a fee is one click that leaves a record.

Most consultants put a late-fee clause in their terms and never charge it, because charging it means re-issuing an invoice and having an awkward conversation about arithmetic. Now the arithmetic is done for you and the conversation, if there is one, is about whether to waive.

How it works

  • Settings → Invoicing has a late-fee policy: a grace period, then a fixed amount or a percentage, charged once or monthly, with an optional cap. It applies to invoices that come due after you turn it on, never retroactively.
  • When an invoice passes its grace period the fee is added as its own line on the ledger. The invoice, the client’s portal, payment reminders and Ivy all quote the full balance, and Stripe checkout charges the full balance.
  • Every invoice with fees has a "Waive late fees" action. It reverses the fee, records that you did, and the balance updates everywhere at once.

Late fees are off until you set a policy. Percentages above 25% are refused, and the settings page shows the policy as one sentence so you can check it reads the way you intend.
